Rail Budget: No hike in passenger fares, freight charges

‘Rail Budget will make train travel 'enjoyable’’

 

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday hailed railway minister Mamata Banerjee for doing a "competent job" at a short notice, saying the Railway Budget will make train travel an "enjoyable experience".
"She (Mamata) has prepared a budget which does not impose burden by way of increase in freight charges or passenger charges," Singh told reporters outside Parliament shortly after the Railway Budget 2009-10 was presented in Lok Sabha.

HC serves notice to CCB on cut-off mark

Agartala, July 3: Adding more woes to the admission process in the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Agartala, the Gauhati High Court of Agartala bench today asked the Central Counseling Board (CCB) to re-look into the decision of enhancement of cut-off marks for admission in the elite institute.

Based on a writ-petition challenging the CCB decision of enhancement of cut-off mark in the admission of NIT, Agartala, Justice CR Sharma today allowed a hearing on the sensitive issue.

Agartala/ Belonia, July 03: Finance Minister Badal Chowdhury today gave a lukewarm treatment to the Railway Budget for 2009-2010, presented to the Lok Sabha by Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Addl outlay sought for NE natl projects

Agartala, July 03: Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee in her Budget presented today said that additional funds to the tune of Rs. 1949 crore have been sought from Finance Ministry for National Projects which included Agartala-Sabroom railway extension work.

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has already undertaken final survey for the Agartala-Sabroom railway extension. Shortage of outlay and tardy land acquisition process might have deadly the completion of the work on time.
