Train touches Agartala station
Times News
Agartala, Aug
06 :
A full-fledged train today arrived at Agartala Rail Station ending
wait for about 59 years. The train that left the Ambassa for
Agartala station around 3.45 pm, touched the destination at 5.15 pm.
It took around 1:20 hours to travel 67 km.
Yesterday,
Commissioner of Railways Safety (CRS) Balbir Singh took a trolley
ride from Agartala to Mungiakami station. Today, he arrived Agartala
station with a train with three compartments. During the journey,
Mr. Singh got down stations to inspect the trace and infrastructure
in and around rail stations.
However, he did
not say anything on the quality of newly built rail line. Sources
said, Mr. Singh would leave the state tomorrow. The CRS is expected
to submit a detailed report on the newly constructed rail line from
Ambassa to Agartala where he will recommend whether passenger train
service can be flagged off or not. It is worthy to mention that
people of Agartala witnessed a railhead on June 29, a day before the
scheduled time.
Earlier, trial
run from Manu to Ambassa was conducted in February 2008. Sources
claimed, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) authorities have
geared up to open the rail link from Manu to Agartala via Ambassa
very shortly. The line is likely to open by October 15 though no
date has been fixed so far.
The NFR wants
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to open the passenger train service
upto Agartala. In that case, opening of passenger train service on
the newly constructed line could be advanced or deferred. Here it
may be recalled that Agartala is going to be second state capital
among the NE states to have rail connectivity.
