Kidnap, extortion bid  unleashed in villages

Gandacherra, Sept. 05: Banned outfit NLFT (B) has become excessively active in the Gandacherra sub-division with several kidnapping incidents and hefty subscription demands from the militants. Local sources have informed that the kidnapping game of this outfit has been let loose without any legal protection arrangements with two villagers kidnapped from the Ratia Para area under Chowmanu police station on August 12 and five villagers kidnapped from the Boyalkhali ADC village on August 29. Demands of regular subscriptions to the outfit have suddenly taken the shape of widespread style with organizational receipts given on pressure to the villagers. Five jhumiya villagers namely Bipur Jamatia, Hirendra Tripura, Jaharam Tripura, Lainsa Tripura and Surajoy Tripura were kidnapped at gun-point from Boyalkhali while Kalyan Singh ADC village witnessed two villagers kidnapped namely Pushparam Reang and Dahiram Reang among whom Pushparam Reang was released on the day following the kidnap in exchange of ransom money.The NLFT (B) team of 14-15 armed cadres, reportedly led by self styled Captain Bikram Bahadur Jamatia and top NLFT rebel leader Dhaniya Debbarma, is conducting all the operations in the area.With NPCC busy with border fencing construction work along the Indo-Bangla border, the team entered Indian territory only after killing two jawans of the border sentinels. The team has reportedly moved to the hilly terrains of Gandacherra trudging through Dandiram, Satiram and Ratiapara area under the sub-division. Any desires of abstaining from paying the subscriptions demanded by the rebels are cruelly dealt with and presently, all the kidnapped persons barring Pushparam Reang stand the menace of being shot dead if the ransom amounts are not paid. Though the Director General of Police had mentioned recently that the amount of extortion money milked from the innocent masses has reduced heavily, the scenario at Gandacherra has showcased a totally reverted picture.

 

RK Dey  Chowdhury  passes away

Agartala, Sept. 05: Mr. RK Dey Chowdhury, Special Secretary of the State Finance Department breathed his last at Kolkata last night. Chief Minister Mr. Manik Sarkar has expressed deep condolence over the demise of the official. Showing condolence on the death of Mr. Chowdhury, the CM said, “Mr. Chowdhury was a true, sincere and a diligent officer of his department. He has played his role with extra-ordinary aptness in several departments of the government for a long time”.Finance Minister Mr. Badal Chowdhury expressed condolence on the demise of Mr. Chowdhury saying, “Losing such an honest officer is a big blow to the state”. He also added that Mr. Chowdhury had tried his heart & soul to maintain order in the finance related matters. He was a true well wisher and always intended to show his own opinion about any decision for the development of state”.

 

Cong celebrates  Teachers Day

Agartala, Sept. 05: 8 Town Bardowali Block Congress Committee adopted an exceptionabl approach in celebrating 49th Teachers Day this year. A team of fifty party members, led by Block Congress President Mr. Sajal Chakraborty, visited the residences of veteran teachers and felicitated them. Mr. Chakraborty offered memento, floral tributes and sweets to 45 teachers individually. Some of the felicitated teachers include Mr. Kalipada Chakraborty, former Headmaster of Netaji Subhash Bidyaniketan, Mr. Satyabrata Chakraborty, Mr. Fanibhushan Ray, Ms. Ratikanta Das and others.

 

Administrative camp organized

Agartala, Sept 05 : An administrative and health camp was organized by the sub divisional administration at Lengtabari JB School of Kailash Nagar under Hrishimukh block in Belonia subdivision on August 30. A discussion on the developmental works of the area was held with the villagers during the camp. SDM Dr. Sanjeev Rathore and BDO Asish Saha participated were remained present. About 10 applications for ST Certificates and 7 applications for Permanent Residence Certificates were received during the camp.A total of 45 people attended the medial camp and all of them were given medicine free of cost. As many as 135 cattle and birds were treated there by employees of Animal Resource Development (ARD) Department. Financial assistance was also offered to 30 distress people.

Ambassa, Sept. 04: Fracas keeps soaring high at the Chandraipara H/S School here with eccentric behaviour let loose from a senior assistant teacher. Sources informed that a teaching faculty namely Mr. Niranjan Das, Bengali subject teacher at the institution has set utter crisis situation at Chandraipara H/S School with several incidents of outrageous activities listed against him; some even accounting to cognizable offence.The teacher has been reported to have conducted several errant activities of attacking a fellow assistant teacher namely Mr. Naresh Das at the institution by raising a chair on his head. The teacher has also got the record of cutting away an ear of a student at the school in recent past on the list. Recently, the eccentric teacher, as he is claimed to be in his circle, has come to light once again with allegations of physical torture on a newly recruited teacher of the school namely Chandan Debnath.According to sources, English subject teacher Mr. Chandan Debnath was conducting the class of 11th standard at the institution on Wednesday last. Mr. Niranjan Das entered into the class-room where the former was delivering he lectures and suddenly started humiliating the class-teacher. Mr. Das even went to the limit of physically torturing the latter. The incident has, however, ended with a short warning for the senior teacher from the school authority.It has been learnt that the errant teacher has close allegiance with the ruling party leaders which is acting as main shield for his fads. Considering the criticalities arising in the school, the Headmaster has already informed the whole matter to Deputy Director of Education.

 

Jawan  remembered  by BSF

Commandant and all ranks of 89 Battalion, BSF remembered the loss of the brave jawan and prayed for peace of the departed soul. Dharmanagar, Sept.  05: Sales Tax Inspector menace looms large in front of businessmen at the Dharmanagar sub-division ahead of Puja season this year as demands of bribes have reportedly increased manifold from the officials. Local sources have informed that a section of the local businessmen have directly stated against the role of Sales Tax Inspector Mr. Haripada Roy. The official is allegedly involved in heavy bribe incidents The bribe addicted official is allegedly increasing his demands of every passing day and small and marginal businessmen operating in the township have come out in stark protest against the injustice announcing an untold stoppage of paying any such demands. Ranges of the bribe demands of this officer moves from Rs. 5,000 till Rs. 50,000 as claimed by sources. It has also been learnt that the errant officer is a very close ally of the ruling party and the tag is protecting him from the heat of departmental action. Meanwhile, the black marketer businessmen here who have developed a hefty business by giving the slip to income tax, sales tax et al are given clean chit in exchange of weighty cash. The temporary businessmen who try to manage the daily bread and butter by somehow carrying on with their trade on the footpaths by commodities they buy from Silchar or Karimganj of Assam once in a year. The grip of Sales Tax Inspector Haripada Roy is mainly towards this section of traders and all of them have stated desires in favour of punishing the errant officer according to law of the land. Sources also informed that a section of the employees at Sales Tax Office here are also discontented at the relentless corruption in which the office has been thrown into. Sources insides the office have also informed that situation of work culture will shape into serious consequences soon if the issue isn’t addressed immediately.

 

Agri offer shifted  on corruption charge

Gandacherra, Sep. 05 : Despite big-talk of offering a good-governance, corruption or malpractice continues to haunt the ADC administration. An official of Agriculture department, ADC, posted in Gandacherra subdivision- Partha Pratim Roy was reportedly found involved in financial irregularity amounting to Rs. 1.60 lakh.It was alleged that Mr. Roy in association with Sukhranjan Das, Prabhuram Debbarma, Bidhan Bhowmik and Agriculture Officer Chandra Kumar Reang embezzled Rs. 1.60 lakh, which was meant for hiring vehicle during 2008-09 financial year.Sources said, the officer could not show voucher before the Audit team. Sensing the malpractice, Zonal Development Officer (ZDO) Dhananjoy Debbarma and Dy CEO Swarna Kamal Chakma have already initiated process to find out the irregularity. As part of cleaning process, Agriculture Officer Mr. Roy has been transferred to new office. People are of the view that malpractice has started taking place in the Agriculture office at Gandacherra after handing over the office to the ADC administration. Earlier, a sizable amount of money was embezzled by a powerful employee leader (HGB) Prabhuram Debbarma at the behest of Agriculture officer Mr. Roy during 2006-07.The then DM had sanctioned Rs. 48.84 lakh for distribution of quality banana saplings among the beneficiaries in 11 village committees under Gandacherra subdivision. It has been alleged that in stead of distribution of quality banana saplings, wild banana saplings were procured by Prabhu Ram Debbaram following instruction of Agriculture Officer Mr. Roy and beneficiaries had rejected to receive the saplings. Though they had to take banana saplings due pressure but they did not plant leading to huge revenue loss.

 

Workshop on  drinking water  held at Mandwai

Agartala, Sept 05 : A workshop on drinking water was organized at Mandwai block on September 3. The Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) department, division II conducted the workshop. Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of Village Committee, Panchayat Secretaries and elected Pancahayat members attended the workshop. Speaking in the workshop, MLA Monaranjan Debbarma lauded the success in the supplying drinking water to different villages. “Tankers were not used in supplying water even during the lean season due to the joint effort of DWS and Panchayats or Villlage Committees”, he saidChief Engineer Somesh Chandra Das, in his speech, said that the government has enlisted drinking water one of the priority sectors. “The DWS has adopted a three-year plan to supply water to each house hold and around 67 percent of villages have so far covered with drinking water service and remaining villages will be covered with creation of spot drinking water source”, he said. Executive Engineer Chinmoy Debnath also spoke in the workshop.

 

 

Body of minor  girl recovered

Amarpur/Agartala, Sep 09: Body of a minor girl was found at a jungle near Muslim Para of Jatanbari in Amarpur sub-division today. Minor girl of Arshad Mishra, a day-labourer of Muslim Para went a jungle to collect firewood on September 2. As the girl did not return home till evening, villagers started searching her and at last they informed it to police on the same day. Later, a missing entry was registered with the police on September 4. Today villagers found body of the girl in the jungle, abut half kilometer away from her house. Villagers alleged that the girl might have been raped by some anti-socials and then murdered her to conceal the evidence. Another girl- Priti Dennarma (11), daughter of Minurani Debbarma of the same village also went missing in the same manner three years back. She is still traceless. After conducting post-mortem, the body was handed over to her father. A pall of gloom descended in the village following the incident. Police started investigation into the case but no arrest was made so far Former Minister said that he had spoken to Superintendent of Police (South) and requested him to undertake an investigation into the incident. Strongly condemning the incident, Mr. Saha demanded immediate arrest of culprits and exemplary punishment. He also sought an amount of Rs. 2 lakh for each family as compensation.
