Organizations meet CM

Sep. 04 :
In a significant move, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today asked
Director General of Police (DGP) Pranay Sahay to order CID
investigation into the sensational Tumpa Das 'suicide' case at
earliest.
The directive
came when a group of women's organizations met the Chief Minister
and made him aware of the way police are handling the case. After
the meeting, Minakshi Sen Bandopadhaya, former chairperson of
Tripura Commission for Women told the reporters that the Chief
Minister accepted that confusion brewing over the mysterious death
of Tumpa Das, wife of Raju Das at Buddamandir area.
"We demanded CID
probe to reveal the truth keeping in mind of the background of Raju
and his family members and the Chief Minister readily agreed to the
demand", she said.
She also lashed
out at the police for plying dubious role to safeguard the people
behind the incident. "Police did not act according to the law of
lands right from the beginning", she said. "We are happy that the
case would be investigated by the CID that will certainly reveal the
truth behind the mysterious death", she said. However, the
representatives of Women's organizations were critical over the role
of Addl SP (Urban) Bijoy Kumar Nag in the case. "He is intentionally
misguiding the people saying that postmortem on the body will be
conducted on August 26. But the fact is that it was done on August
25", she said.
She also
demanded change in Women PS's monopoly in handling cases related to
crime against women.
"There should be
scope for 'willing' women to go other police stations and lodge her
complaint", she said adding that the Chief Minister agreed on the
proposal.
She further said
that the Chief Minister lauded the move of the women's organizations
for coming forward against the crime against women.

anything on the progress of the investigation. Sources said, the
four-member team led by Inspector Sanjoy Sen is likely to visit
Sonamura and Udaipur tomorrow to gather more inputs related to the
scam. The CBI is all set to seek help from the Interpol to apprehend
14 more accused persons including kingpin of the fake drafts racket
that rattled the state's banking service about two years back.
Investigation so far revealed that, Kamal Hassan and his companions,
all are citizens of Comilla district in Bangladesh, had distributed
fake drafts to their Indian counterparts. Interpol's help is must if
CBI wants to arrest the fourteen accused criminals staying in

no extradition treaty between India and Bangladesh, a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) was singed in Dhaka recently to nab criminals
from both sides. Altogether 59 persons were identified as accused in
the fake draft rackets of 'Alraji Banking Corporation' and out of
them 14 are from Bangladeshi. As the scam's root is extended to
Bangladesh, the state police authorities have handed over the case
to CBI on June 22. CBI suspects that all the fake drafts were
computer generated high-resolution copies of original drafts were
sent to Indian racketeers from Bangladesh. Several banks in the
state had received 161 fake drafts in 2006. CBI sleuths are likely
to visit Sonamura, Kanchanpur, Udaipur and Kailashahar subdivision

two persons from Kailashahar subdivision for possessing fake
drafts. Based on specific information, police swung into action and
arrested Md. Ambar Ali (45) of Magurali and Md. Kuddus Ali (35) of
Kailasahar on Monday. Sources said that the case might be forwarded
