CID to investigate Tumpa suicide case

Women's Organizations meet CM

Agartala, Sep. 04 : In a significant move, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today asked Director General of Police (DGP) Pranay Sahay to order CID investigation into the sensational Tumpa Das 'suicide' case at earliest.

The directive came when a group of women's organizations met the Chief Minister and made him aware of the way police are handling the case. After the meeting, Minakshi Sen Bandopadhaya, former chairperson of Tripura Commission for Women told the reporters that the Chief Minister accepted that confusion brewing over the mysterious death of Tumpa Das, wife of Raju Das at Buddamandir area.

"We demanded CID probe to reveal the truth keeping in mind of the background of Raju and his family members and the Chief Minister readily agreed to the demand", she said.

She also lashed out at the police for plying dubious role to safeguard the people behind the incident. "Police did not act according to the law of lands right from the beginning", she said. "We are happy that the case would be investigated by the CID that will certainly reveal the truth behind the mysterious death", she said. However, the representatives of Women's organizations were critical over the role of Addl SP (Urban) Bijoy Kumar Nag in the case. "He is intentionally misguiding the people saying that postmortem on the body will be conducted on August 26. But the fact is that it was done on August 25", she said.        

She also demanded change in Women PS's monopoly in handling cases related to crime against women.

 

"There should be scope for 'willing' women to go other police stations and lodge her complaint", she said adding that the Chief Minister agreed on the proposal.

She further said that the Chief Minister lauded the move of the women's organizations for coming forward against the crime against women.

 

 

'We are forgetting dignity of Mankind'

Agartala, Sep 04 : Inaugurating the three-day workshop on "Humanitarian Value & Disaster Risk Reduction" organized by Tripura State Branch of Indian Red Cross Society at Red Cross Bhavan here today, Power and Transport Minister Manik Dey said "Humanitarian service is the service to one's country. But unfortunately we are forgetting the dignity of human value and becoming self centric day by day". Speaking on disaster management, the minister said, "We should inculcate the significance of one's duty to the human lives among our children. Every concerned citizen therefore must make aware of one's limitation to the people of grass root level so that they could be well informed on how to protect people during manmade or natural calamities.  "To raise the understanding level of the people should be our prime responsibility" he said. He further mentioned that it should be the responsibility of the parents to teach their children to have respect for human being. Praising the organization, Mr. Dey said, the organization not only protects life, render health services, promotes mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation and peace amongst the people but at least stands beside the distressed.

He exhorted the people and the organization to stand for each other so that the lost humanity could be restored. Talking on the aim of the organization Mr. Dey said that it is an auxiliary government  though independent and which aim is to assist the world's most vulnerable people in times of natural disasters, wars or epidemic. He showed his respect to Henry Durant, Father of Red Cross for his noble emanation to the humanity.

He also underlined the fundamental principles of the international Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement that the reason of its emanation was to bring assistance without discrimination to the wounded on the battlefield, to prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found. "The main purpose is to protect the life and health but that could be possible only if one is prepared to prevent" reiterated Mr. Sodagar.

 

CBI sleuths to visit Sonamura, Udaipur

Agartala, Sep  04 : The CBI sleuths today visited some banks and talked to employees engaged in draft section. However, as expected they did not say anything on the progress of the investigation. Sources said, the four-member team led by Inspector Sanjoy Sen is likely to visit Sonamura and Udaipur tomorrow to gather more inputs related to the scam. The CBI is all set to seek help from the Interpol to apprehend 14 more accused persons including kingpin of the fake drafts racket that rattled the state's banking service about two years back. Investigation so far revealed that, Kamal Hassan and his companions, all are citizens of Comilla district in Bangladesh, had distributed fake drafts to their Indian counterparts. Interpol's help is must if CBI wants to arrest the fourteen accused criminals staying in Bangladesh, sources said.

Though there is no extradition treaty between India and Bangladesh, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was singed in Dhaka recently to nab criminals from both sides. Altogether 59 persons were identified as accused in the fake draft rackets of 'Alraji Banking Corporation' and out of them 14 are from Bangladeshi. As the scam's root is extended to Bangladesh, the state police authorities have handed over the case to CBI on June 22. CBI suspects that all the fake drafts were computer generated high-resolution copies of original drafts were sent to Indian racketeers from Bangladesh. Several banks in the state had received 161 fake drafts in 2006.   CBI sleuths are likely to visit Sonamura, Kanchanpur, Udaipur and Kailashahar subdivision to collect inputs on the fake drafts scam. On Monday police arrested two persons from Kailashahar subdivision for possessing fake drafts.  Based on specific information, police swung into action and arrested Md. Ambar Ali (45) of Magurali and Md. Kuddus Ali (35) of Kailasahar on Monday. Sources said that the case might be forwarded to the CBI for in-depth investigation as it has already undertaken a similar nature of case.

 

RKVVM pays tribute to Dr. Krishnan

Agartala, Sep 04: Dr. Sarvapalli Radha Krishnan's birthday is celebrated as 'Teachers' day' in the country. It's an occasion for all of us to pay tribute to our teachers and commit ourselves to the values espoused by them. Today, the students of Ramakrishna Vivekananda Vidyamandir (RKVVM) here celebrated Teachers' Day at their school building. The birthday of Dr. Sarvapalli Radha Krishnan was celebrated taking computer classes of 22 teachers by the pupils. The teachers were taught MS print, Microsoft and Power Point at the computer classes by the students of class XI and class X today. Speaking on the occasion, headmaster of the school said that the particular function was initiated to encourage computer learning among the students. He also said "Dr. Sarvapalli Radha Krishanan was not only a great philosopher but also a true statesman and a renowned scholar.  He symbolized all the qualities of head and heart which a teacher should possess".

 

TGTA conference on September 6

Agartala, Sep 04 : Tripura Government Teachers Association (TGTA) is going to organize their 63rd annual state conference at Town Hall here on next September 6 and the conference is stated to be continued till September 9. Briefing to media persons at TGTA office, H B Road here, general secretary Amal Chatterjee highlighted the programmes would be taken up during conference.

He said the first day of the conference would be kept for a discussion titled 'No Commercialization of Education, Union Government Should Take the Entire Responsibility of Education Sector'.

The seminar is stated to be graced by dignitaries like Mr. M A Baby, Education Minister, Kerala, State School Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty and general secretary of School Teachers Federation of India (STFI) Mr. K Rajendran. On the other hand, during representatives' session, West Bengal School Education Minister Partha Dey, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, Finance Minister Badal Choudhury, State School Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty and so on will take part.

When asked about what kind of discussion might take place in the four day long conference, Mr. Chakraborty said it would be an overall discussion relating educational issues to country's present scenario.

Mr. Chakraborty today criticized the union government alleging that union government intentionally is privatizing educational institutions and has started avoiding taking the responsibility of education sector.

However, he eulogized the present education system in state and only said that they had demanded to state government for more teachers when asked about teachers' shortage in schools.

TGTA does not oppose any N-deal or agreement, but there should be the guarantee of protection of country's sovereignty, he said replying a question over N-deal with the US. He however did not show any discontent when the pay review committee issue was roused. He only stated that Pay Commission or Pay Review Committee, the titles might be different but the theme is same.

AAKS starts  campaign

Agartala, Sep 04: State branch of Aam Aadmi Ka Sipahi (AAKS), a voluntary organization has started awareness campaigning in state. As a part of it, a team of State Youth Congress visited a number of Gram Panchayats under Hejamara R D Block and collected information regarding NREGA on last September 2. State Co coordinator of AAKS, Santanu Deb, vice president Tapan Sinha, Secretary Rahul Saha and youth leader Arabindo Datta were few of the team visited that day.  The team also interacted with common rural people on NREGA and heard problems of the people. It may be recalled here that it is a programme of Youth Congress emanated from Rahul Gandhi's vision of the necessity of the youth to connect with the grassroots level and popularize the historic schemes implemented by the Congress led UPA Government, especially the NREGS, which has been extended countrywide from this year.

Agartala, Sep  04: Feature film Yawrng got released today. This film is based on people displaced by the Dambur hydroelectric project. Father Joseph Pulinthanath and Father K J Joseph of Don Bosco were the main architects of the film. 

In the release-ceremony, Ministers, Anil Sarkar, Jitendra Chowdhury, CEM of  Autonomous District Council, Ranjit Deb Barma and Bishop Lumen Montriol were present. All of them praised the efforts in promoting cultural heritage of the state.

It is a Kokborok film but has subtitle in English.

 

EM instructs probe,Shillong team arrives

School authority calls picnic

Agartala/ Udaipur, Sep 04 : However, the school is rattled with the sex scandal, authority of Jawahar Novodaya Vidyalaya at Udaipur Banduar has slatted a picnic at Shipahijala wild life sanctuary for students and teachers on next Monday and sources claims it, a bid to bring the reactions under control.  Not only that the principal of the school, D G Shekharan who allegedly tried to rape one female teacher, has also summoned guardians to be present in an urgent meeting on Saturday, which people smell fishy.

 On the other hand, School Education Minister, Tapan Chakraborty instructed director of schools to carry out an investigation into the incident and to submit report as soon possible.

Expressing concerns over the increasing trend of sexual nuisance in educational institutions, Mr. Chakraborty said, " appropriate action will be taken after getting the inquiry report. The state does not tolerate, if anybody tries to create havoc in educational atmosphere". 

A high profile team from JNV regional headquarters Shillong reached the school this evening. They started questioning the concerned persons and also others.

Recently a lady teacher of the school complained to the district magistrate of South Tripura that Principal, D G Shekharan tired to rape her in the month of July last year and he relentlessly abused her sexually for the last one year. She also communicated the JNV higher authority in this regard. The concerned DM formed a three-member inquiry committee besides making a hearing on the matter. The inquiry committee carried out their task. A panel of State Women's Commission visited the school.  Zilla Shabhadhipati of South district, Maya Paul went to the school to take enquiry but she faced misbehave from the students yesterday; they poured filthy words to Mrs. Paul. The incident, sources claimed, " was on the behest of a section of authority to derail the inquiry being carried by different agencies".

At Kendriya Vidyalaya of Agartala Kunjaban, allegation was submitted in written by students and their guardians that teacher S K Aangare molested four seven standard students on August 25.  An inquiry committee was formed here also but even after a week, it is yet to take any action so far.

 

INDEF thanks Union Govt

Agartala, Sep 04 : The Union government has enhanced the pay scale of superintending engineers, now they get place in the highest grade of pay scale, band no 4.  In this context, a circular was published on the August 30.

Indian Engineers Federation (INDEF) expressed thankfulness to the government for accepting their demands to enhance the pay scale from the one, which was  prescribed in the 6th Pay Commission recommen- dations.

In a statement, Secretary General of the organization, Chinmoy Deb Nath told, " the 6th Pay Commission kept the superintending engineers at pay band 3 and the recommended basic pay would be Rs.32, 490 at starting which now will be Rs.46, 100."

He said that INDEF went in intensive movement after the publication of  Pay Commission's recommendations. It presented their charter of demands to the Prime Minister, Union Finance Minister, Chief Ministers of the states.

Besides, the representatives of INDEF observed 'Demand Day' on the 17th May last and also staged demonstration in Delhi on the July 7th and 8th.

Engineer Deb Nath along with Chairman of the organization,  M Nagraj met Union ministers, Joypaul Reddy and Subodhkanta Sahay and also they gave deputation to Foreign Minister, Pranab Mukherjee.

INDEF will organize annual general conference on the 7th and 8th September in Bangaluru where it will fix the next course of action.
