1 arrested in Kalyanpur gang rape incident

Kalyanpur, Oct 26: Police on Wednesday detained 1 suspect in connection with the gang rape incident took place in an area under Kalyanpur police station on Tuesday night. The suspect is identified as Tapas Debnath.
The incident took place after a minor girl, who was returning to her house on Tuesday night at around 11 pm went missing and she was allegedly looted by a group of miscreants on her way back.
The family members of the minor finally found their daughter on their house in a very distressed condition in the daw hours on Wednesday. Soon after their daughter reached home, they lodged complaint with the police station and alleged that their daughter was gang raped on Tuesday night.
The family members accused three persons identified as Aditya Das, Tapas Debnath and another Ratan Debnath and alleged that they had raped their daughter.
Soon after the complaint was lodged, police on Wednesday managed to detain one of the three accused persons identified as Tapas Debnath, while others remained absconding. The police officer Prashun Kanti Tripura, who is leading the investigation, claimed that the rest of the accused persons would be detained soon.
The incident triggered panic among the locals, who expressed concern and demanded the police on Wednesday to immediately detain the other accused persons involved with the incident.
On the other hand, a women leader of the TIPRA Motha party – Swapna Debbarma along with her colleague leaders rushed to the Kalyanpur police station on Wednesday and threatened the police of mass movement if they fail to arrest the culprits involved with the incident.
