100 women receive sewing machines under skill development initiative in AMC Ward

In a significant step towards promoting women's self-reliance, 100 women of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Ward No. 5 were provided with sewing machines under a skill development initiative on Monday.

A distribution programme was organised at Shyamali Bazar, where Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and MLA Deepak Majumder handed over the sewing machines in the presence of Ward No. 5 Councillor Lata Nath and other dignitaries.

The sewing machines were distributed by the Directorate of Skill Development following the successful completion of a structured tailoring training programme. The beneficiaries had earlier undergone 50 days of training comprising 300 hours in tailoring. During the training period, each participant was also provided with a stipend of Rs 2,000.

Addressing the gathering, Mayor Deepak Majumder thanked the officials of the Directorate of Skill Development for implementing the programme aimed at empowering women through skill-based livelihood opportunities.

He said the initiative is designed to help women become financially independent by enabling them to earn a sustainable income through tailoring. The Mayor further announced that similar programmes would be implemented in all wards under the Agartala Municipal Corporation to expand livelihood opportunities for women across the city.

The initiative is expected to encourage self-employment and strengthen economic empowerment among women by equipping them with both vocational skills and the necessary tools to start their own work.
