12,26,000 Yaba tablets worth over Rs 98 cr seized in Tripura

1226000 yaba tablets worth over rs 98 cr seized in tripura

Despite intensified surveillance and large-scale seizures, the supply of narcotics continues unabated in Tripura and various other parts of North East.

In the latest major crackdown, Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Tripura Police, seized a combined 12.26 lakh Yaba tablets valued at approximately Rs. 98.08 crore during two separate operations conducted on the night of September 15 in Khowai and North Tripura districts.

The operations were launched based on intelligence inputs received through the Assam Rifles' Intelligence and Field Intelligence Unit (ARFIU) and other sources, highlighting the role of real-time intelligence in disrupting narcotics consignments moving through the region.

In the first operation, Assam Rifles personnel, working with the DRI, recovered 7.26 lakh Yaba tablets worth around Rs. 58.08 crore in Khowai district. One person was apprehended in connection with the consignment, while a Tata truck allegedly used for transportation was also seized.

In a separate operation at Panisagar in North Tripura, Assam Rifles and North Tripura Police intercepted another consignment containing 5 lakh Yaba tablets valued at around Rs. 40 crore. One person was apprehended and a Tata truck was seized.

The twin seizures came amid continuing concerns over the movement of narcotics through Tripura, which shares an international border with Bangladesh and is strategically located in the Northeast's transport network. The repeated interception of large consignments suggests that trafficking networks continue to attempt to move substantial quantities of drugs despite strong vigilance.

The latest action also comes shortly after a major Phensedyl seizure at Agartala railway station, adding to a series of narcotics-related recoveries reported in the state.

Security agencies have increasingly relied on coordinated operations, intelligence inputs and inter-agency information sharing to target the supply chain. The latest operations demonstrated the synergy between Assam Rifles, DRI and state police in intercepting consignments before they could reach their intended destinations.

While each major seizure represents a disruption to a drug trafficking operation, the frequency and scale of recoveries point to a broader challenge: drug supply routes remain active and organised networks continue to operate across Tripura and the Northeast despite strong vigilance by security and enforcement agencies.

The latest seizures therefore provide a dual picture—an increasingly coordinated enforcement response on one side, and the continued ability of organised trafficking networks to move large quantities of narcotics on the other.

Meanwhile, in a separate raid, Assam Rifles alongwith Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Silchar, seized 109.200 kg of Yaba tablets valued at approximately Rs. 327 crore in the Ramnathpur area of Hailakandi district, Assam.

Acting on specific intelligence, a joint team of Assam Rifles and DRI launched a coordinated operation in the area between on 15 and 16 Sep 2026 which resulted in recovery of 546 packets of Yaba tablets weighing 109.2 kg along with seizure of two trucks, one mobile and arrested one person.
