17 Donation Boxes opened at Tripura Sundari Temple amid tight security

After a gap of almost one month and twenty days, the traditional donation boxes and chests of the historic Mata Tripura Sundari Temple were reopened on Tuesday morning, marking a significant occasion for devotees and administrators alike.

A total of 17 donation chests and boxes were unlocked in the temple courtyard, with the counting process beginning early in the day and continuing until evening. 

The exercise was conducted under strict administrative supervision, with a 17-member special team formed by the Gomati District Magistrate’s office to ensure transparency and accuracy.

Officials recalled that during the last opening on 18 May, the temple had recorded collections amounting to Rs 20.52 lakh, along with foreign currency. This time too, sources indicated the possibility of a substantial collection, though counting members suggested the amount may be slightly lower compared to the previous round. 

The presence of foreign currency once again highlighted the temple’s growing popularity among international tourists and pilgrims, beyond its traditional base of domestic devotees.

Deputy Collector Chandrashekhar Chattopadhyay, overseeing the process, confirmed that the counting was being carried out strictly in line with prescribed rules and was expected to conclude between 6 and 7 pm.

The reopening of the donation boxes has drawn attention not only for the financial collections but also for the temple’s stature as a cultural and spiritual hub.
