The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) confirmed that a 3.8‑magnitude earthquake struck Dhalai district in Tripura shortly after midnight, sparking brief concern but causing no reported casualties or property damage.
The tremor was recorded at 12:57:38 am, with the epicentre pinpointed at latitude 23.757°N and longitude 91.995°E, at a depth of 30 kilometres beneath the surface. The NCS shared details of the quake through its official X account soon after detection.
Authorities described the quake as moderate intensity. While residents in parts of Dhalai reported feeling the tremor, there have been no immediate reports of injuries, structural damage, or disruption to essential services. Officials are continuing to monitor the situation, and further updates on the impact are awaited.
Notably, the NCS, India’s nodal agency for seismic monitoring, regularly tracks and publishes earthquake data across the country and neighbouring regions. The quake in Dhalai adds to the record of seismic activity in the northeast, a zone known for its geological vulnerability.
Meanwhile, local residents expressed relief that the tremor did not escalate into a more severe event. The district administration has urged people to remain cautious and follow safety protocols in case of aftershocks.
