Agartala, May 04: The RPF personnel posted at Agartala Railway Station held five persons including three coach attendants of Tripura Sundari Express in connection with ganja trafficking.
Based on secret information, the officers and staff of RPF Post, Agartala laid a trap at Agartala railway station and the nearby area.
The RPF men noticed that two persons were moving suspiciously on a motorcycle near the railway yard and canteen. When the bike stopped at the end point of the platform, three other persons collected two bags from the bike riders. Finally, the RPF personnel chased and nabbed the five persons along with the bags.
During preliminary interrogation, three persons- Rajkaran Singh Baghel, Kuldeep Singh and Azad Kumar, all coach attendants, confessed that they had collected the ganja consignment (21 kg) for transporting it to Ferozepur through Tripura Sundari Express.
Suraj Kumar, resident of Vaishali in Bihar, who travelled in the same train from Patna and played a key role in connecting the carriers with the supplier, and the supplier- Kamal Nama, resident of Sepahijala district, were also nabbed.
According to RPF sources, it was Kamal Nama who had brought the cannabis on his motorcycle along with Suraj Kumar and handed it over to the three coach attendants.
After the legal formalities, all five persons were handed over to the GRP unit.
Meanwhile, Tripura Times on April 30 last had published a report regarding large-scale smuggling of ganja and other contraband items through Agartala railway station with the help of a section of staff and local mafias.
The RPF sources said, the drive against contraband item traffickers would be strengthened and appropriate steps would be taken if anyone found involved in such illegal acts. According to local sources, the smugglers are reportedly using some staff of the parcel office in running their illegal business.
