305 nominations filed for Tripura assembly polls

Agartala, Jan 30: Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Tripura Kiran Gitte on Monday said that total 305 nominations were filed for the assembly polls.
He said, as many as 228 nominations were filed on the last day; it was the highest single-day count so far.
Speaking to the media at the conference hall of West Tripura District Magistrate’s office, the CEO said that scrutiny of nominations would take place on Tuesday while the exact figure of the contesting candidates would come up after February 2, the last date for withdrawal of nominations. According to the CEO, 297 candidates had contested the 2018 assembly polls.
Gitte said, 25 observers already reached the state for scrutiny of the nominations. Besides, three special observers and eight police observers also arrived in the state.
“There was no report of any problem during the process of filing nomination from any part of the state till the evening,” he said and thanked the candidates of all political parties for filing their nominations in a peaceful manner.
He also said that all the candidates, who filed nominations, would be given security so that they can move freely.
“We will not wait till the scrutiny of nominations or last date of withdrawal. We will provide security to all the candidates from today itself,” he added.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer Usha Jen Mog was also present in the press conference.
Meanwhile, Tripura will go to assembly polls on February 16 next and counting of votes would take place on March 02.
