Agartala Dec 01: A group of sacked 13,323 teachers are on a hunger strike for the past 43 days demanding permanent solution to their problem.
On receiving no positive response from the government so far, the 10,323 teachers on Thursday, blocked the road in front of the hunger strike stage near Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in the capital city to draw the attention of the state government.
Speaking to the media persons 10,323 teacher’s leader Pradip Banik said, “We are giving a 7days ultimatum to the state government. Either send us back to our respective schools or give us individual termination letters”.
He added, “You all know that when the Left Front was in power, the High Court of Tripura declared our jobs to be illegal. In the judgement, there is no mention of 10,323.
We lost our jobs due to the ignorant attitude of the higher officials of the Education and Law department as the jobs of as many as 38 people were challenged. Later Tripura saw a political change of guard, a new political party with a promise to resolve our problem was set at the helm of power but we did not see any change. We want our services in schools to be resumed”.
Meanwhile, because of the road blockade public suffering increased in the capital city.
On the other hand, it is reported that only few 10,323 teachers qualified in the written examinations conducted by JRBT for Group C and Group D posts.
“With Assembly is ensuing, we have very limited time – we are conducting hunger strike for the last 43 days and several of us fell ill. Despite our pitiable condition, the state government is not taking any concrete positive steps to end our plights. We hope that the government comes up with a solution within next seven days; else we will be forced to hit the streets in a bigger way”, Banik told the media.
Banik also said Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha held talks with the legal experts relating to the axed 10,323 teachers recently – however, assurance from the chief minister is still eluding.
