583 GPs, VCs in Tripura to be brought under FTTH internet connection

Agartala, Nov 01: Principal Secretary of IT department Puneet Agarwal on Tuesday said that 583 Gram Panchayats (GPs) and Villages Councils (VCs) would be brought under fibre internet connection including Wi-Fi.
He said, the central government has sanctioned Rs. 50 crore for the whole project that includes installation of 177 mobile towers under a scheme for saturation of 4G mobile services. The project would be implemented by BSNL.
Speaking to the media at the civil secretariat, he also said, 27 mobile Common Service Centres would be launched to bring uncovered Gram Panchayats and Village Councils under Common Service Centre. The North Eastern Council sanctioned Rs. 3.26 crore for implementing the scheme.
While highlighting various achievements and initiatives of the IT department, the Principal Secretary said, New Generation Innovation Network (NGIN) has been taken up in four technical institutions- NIT, TIT, Techno College and ICFAI for promoting various innovative ideas.
The IT department also signed a MoU with Tripura University, Tripura Institute of Paramedical Sciences (TIPS) and College of Agriculture for implementation of the NGIN project, he added.
