8th Student Project Program: Science must reach every student, says Minister Animesh Debbarma

The Tripura State Council for Science and Technology inaugurated its two-day 8th Student Project Programme on Wednesday at Pragna Bhavan, Agartala, with the aim of encouraging students across disciplines to pursue research in science and advanced technologies for nation building.

The programme was formally inaugurated by Science and Technology Minister Animesh Debbarma, who emphasized the importance of cultivating scientific curiosity and innovation among students from an early stage.

Speaking at the event, Debbarma said, “This initiative is part of our ongoing effort to bring science closer to students. We want them to stay connected with scientific thinking during their academic journey and explore small-scale technological innovations. To support this, the Department of Science and Technology is providing financial assistance.”

This year’s programme is centered around the theme “Indigenous Technologies for Sustainable Development”, highlighting the role of local knowledge systems and eco-friendly innovations in shaping the future.

Students presented research projects developed over the past year, showcasing their work in areas such as biodiversity conservation, scientific processing of indigenous and organic foods, and sustainable technology applications.

Minister Debbarma also noted that the Tripura government has been allocating dedicated funds to support student-led research in science and technology. The programme featured interactive sessions and discussions aimed at inspiring young minds to contribute to the state’s development through scientific inquiry and innovation.
