Aadhar linking with voter cards to start from Aug 1, says Tripura CEO

As recommended by the Election Commission of India, linking of Aadhar cards with the voter cards would be done in Tripura and the process would commence from August 01, said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Kiran Gitte.
Addressing a press conference at the Civil Secretariat on Saturday, he said linking of Aadhar with voter cards would help identify duplicate voter.
“BLOs will visit door-to-door to collect Aadhar number in specific forms for linking with the voter card from August 1 next and the drive will continue till September next. The Aadhar number will not be published in electoral roll in public domain; it will be used internally. The move is to ensure one vote for one person,” the CEO told the reporters.
He appealed to all for cooperating with the BLOs for linking the Aadhar cards with the voter cards.
He said, three other important decisions have also been taken by the Election Commission. As per the decision, now the youngsters in 17+ age group may also submit applications for having their names enrolled in the voter list in advance.
Besides, the voter list would be revised four times in a year now onwards; the qualifying dates are January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1, the Chief Electoral Officer said.
The two other decisions are- gender neutral provision for Service and Special Electors and Power to acquire premises for the purpose of conduct of election.
