Ace judoka Asmita Dey felicitated by Tripura govt for gold in CWG: CM hands over land allotment paper, Rs. 10 lakh cheque

The Tripura government on Wednesday felicitated the state’s proud daughter, judoka Asmita Dey, in recognition of her remarkable achievement at the international level.

At a felicitation programme organised at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha handed over a cheque of Rs. 10 lakh and the land allotment document to Asmita in recognition of her historic achievement.

The Chief Minister said Asmita Dey, who won India’s first-ever gold medal in judo at the Commonwealth Games, is an inspiration for the younger generation. 

He said her achievement at the international level is also a shining example of women’s empowerment.

Dr. Saha said there is no shortage of talent in Tripura and that the government is working to develop adequate sports infrastructure in the state. 

With proper training, hard work and discipline, young boys and girls can bring glory to the country and the state at the international level, he said.

The Chief Minister cited Asmita Dey and Padma Shri awardee Dipa Karmakar as examples of athletes from Tripura who have brought laurels to the state and the country through their achievements.

Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, Padma Shri Dipa Karmakar and other dignitaries were present at the programme.

Meanwhile, Asmita was accorded a rousing welcome as she landed at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, Agartala. It was her maiden visit to the home state since winning the gold medal in CWG.

Youths in large numbers assembled at the airport to welcome the golden girl.
