As the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections approach, the political battleground is intensifying with Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha positioning the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as the flagbearer of development and stability.
Â
At the launch of the BJP’s campaign vehicle from the state headquarters on Wednesday, Saha delivered a pointed critique of Tipra Motha, accusing the party of failing to translate its promises into progress for the tribal population. He argued that the council has long been dominated by “muscle power politics and emotional manipulation,” but insisted that voters are now gravitating toward a governance model rooted in welfare and infrastructure.
Â
The chief minister's remarks carried a dual message: first, that the BJP intends to spotlight welfare schemes that remain underutilized due to lack of awareness in tribal areas; second, that the party is gaining ground as leaders from Tipra Motha defect to its ranks. He framed this momentum as evidence of a shifting political tide.
Â
The Chief Minister also alleged corruption within the council, pledging to bring transparency and accountability to the forefront of the campaign. He contrasted the BJP’s agenda with what he described as years of stagnation under CPI(M) and Tipra Motha, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on tribal welfare as a guiding force for the state government.
Â
Violence in the region, including a recent attack on a minister’s vehicle, was portrayed by Dr Saha as a symptom of political frustration among rivals. He assured that law enforcement agencies are prepared to act decisively, stressing that peace and stability are central to the BJP’s vision for the council.
Â
As campaigning gathers pace, the chief minister reiterated that the BJP’s mission is not merely electoral victory but a long-term transformation of the TTAADC region. “People want progress, not politics of coercion,” he said, underscoring the party’s commitment to tribal welfare and inclusive development.
