Agar growers, traders in Tripura get ID cards

Churaibari, Nov 02: In a bid to curb illegal agar traders, the All Tripura Agar Association on Wednesday issued identity cards to agar traders as well as its growers during a programme organized at Kadamtala Town Hall.
The Agar Association officials asked the agar growers to sell the plants to traders with valid identification obtained from the association.
It is learnt that the theft of Agar wood from Kadamtala area reported almost every day. Concerns were expressed in the meeting about the theft of agar.
All Tripura Agar Association president Shailendra Nath and Secretary Anfar Ali said they have raised the matter many times with the police and forest department officials as the farmers are suffering huge losses due to constant theft of agar trees.
Block Chairman Subrata Deb, however, announced that the Agar Hut will be set-up in the old market of Dak Bangla in Kadamtala by December this year.
Kadamtala Panchayat Samiti Chairman Subrata Deb, Panchayat Samiti Member Raja Dhar, Sub-Divisional Forest Officer and others were present in the programme.
