Agartala Mayor urges citizens to join India's first digital census

India’s historic transition to a fully digital census has formally begun, with the nationwide launch of the self-enumeration process. Citizens across the country can now record their household details online, marking the first step in the Census 2027 exercise.

In Tripura, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder has appealed to residents to actively participate in this modern initiative by submitting their information from home. He emphasized that the digital census represents a milestone in India’s governance journey, promising faster, more accurate, and transparent data collection while reducing reliance on paper records.

The self-enumeration process opened on July 17 and will continue uninterrupted until July 31. During this period, every citizen is expected to register their details on the official portal, se.census.gov.in. The system requires users to enter a valid mobile number, upon which a one-time password (OTP) is generated to enable secure login and submission of family information.

Mayor Majumder noted that the digital census empowers citizens to directly record their own data, ensuring authenticity and efficiency. He expressed confidence that Tripura’s people will respond enthusiastically, helping to make India’s first digital census a success.

Officials have underlined that the initiative is not merely a technological upgrade but a step toward building a more inclusive and responsive society. By streamlining data collection, the government aims to strengthen planning for welfare schemes and development programmes at both national and state levels.
