In a significant development for commuters in North Tripura, Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma announced that the Agartala–Silchar passenger express train will begin halting at Pecharthal railway station from December 1.Â
Â
The long‑standing demand of local residents has finally been fulfilled, bringing relief not only to the people of Pecharthal but also to those in Kumarghat and Kanchanpur subdivisions.
Â
Speaking to reporters, Minister Chakma expressed her satisfaction, noting that the demand for the train’s stoppage at Pecharthal had been raised repeatedly over the years. She personally met the Union Railway Minister in Delhi to press for the request, which has now been approved. An official flag‑off ceremony will be held on December 1, marking the commencement of the new stoppage.
Â
Until now, passengers from Pecharthal had to travel to Kumarghat or Dharmanagar to board the Agartala–Silchar train. With the new arrangement, residents will be able to access the service directly from their own station, saving both time and effort.Â
Â
Minister Chakma extended her gratitude to the Union Railway Ministry and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for their support in making this development possible. She emphasized that the move will greatly benefit local commuters and strengthen connectivity in the region.
