Agartala, July 19: On the eve of Bank Nationalization Day the bankers under the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) — an umbrella organization of nine different bank unions on Tuesday staged a protest against privatization of banks.
With the slogan, “Bank Bachao, Desh Bachao,” the bank employees under the banner of UFBU traversed through the city streets, carrying a message against the proposed privatization of banks.
As the bankers on Tuesday observed the Nationalization of Bank, they opined that the Centre’s attempt to privatize public sector banks was nothing but reversing the wheels of the history of bank nationalization.
The agitated bankers said if the government continues to maintain its position on bank privatization, the unions will be left with no other choice but to intensify the agitation by resorting to strikes if needed.
The bankers also announced to join nation-wide protest on July 20 in Sepahijala, Gomati and South Tripura district on July 20, while in Khowai, Teliamura and Jirania sub-divisions on July 21.
