Agartala, Aug 10: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday said all Primary Health Centres (PHCs) would be converted into Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) by 2022.
Addressing a programme at Nutanbazar in Amarpur sub-division, Dr. Saha said the process is underway and Health and Wellness Centres have already been set in many of the places. There are around 1005 health sub-centres and 115 PHCs in the state, he said.
After inaugurating the new building of Nutanbazar Community Health Centre, he said, the double-engine government is working with priority to develop the healthcare sector.
According to Dr. Saha, the infant mortality rate has come down from 27 percent in 2015 to 21 percent now. He also said, the infrastructure in health facilities at the primary level is being developed.
Dr. Saha announced that a new medical college would come up at Ambassa in Dhalai district and the site for the proposed medical college has already been identified.
Oncosurgery is now available at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Centre and around 201 oncosurgeries have so far been conducted in the cancer hospital, he said.
He also highlighted Tripura’s achievement in fight against Covid and tuberculosis. He said, the number of seats for MBBS course in Agartala Government Medical College has increased from 100 to 125 last year.
He appealed to the people for proper maintenance of the health facility and keeping it clean.
“Doctors and health staff always try to deliver best service to the patients. The people have to keep faith in them and cooperate while availing treatment,” Dr. Saha said in reference to incidents of attacks on doctors.
In the inaugural ceremony, the Chief Minister felicitated four students- Ankita Debnath, Gopa Rani Tripura, Swarnadip Saha and Karna Acharjee along with head master Sumangal Chakma of Nutanbazar Higher Secondary School for their special contribution in Covid vaccination drive. The Chief Minister also participated in a tree plantation drive. MLA Ranjit Das and health officials were present.
As part of his visit, the Chief Minister inspected the infrastructure at Nutanbazar School and interacted with the students.
Earlier, he took part in a beneficiary assistance programme at 5th-Bn TSR camp in Paschim Doluma where he handed over national Flags to some of the students as part of har Ghar Tiranga campaign.
