Amra Bangali observed Language Martyrs Day

Agartala May 19: Amra Bangali, Tripura State Committee on Friday observed Bhasha Shahid Diwas or Language Martyrs Day with due dignity.
The leaders and members of the party paid floral tributes to the martyrs in remembrance of their sacrifice on May 19, 1961.
Speaking to the reporters, Amra Bangali state secretary Gouranga Rudra Pal said, “Bhasha Shahid Diwas or Language Martyrs Day is observed every year in remembrance of the incident that happened on May 19,1961 when eleven youth including one woman laid their lives down in police firing at the Silchar railways station while protesting against imposition of Assamese language on the Bengali-speaking populace”.
On this day, the Amra Bangali party raised four-point demands that include; Bengalis should not be called as foreigners, application of Bengali language at all levels of the state, formation of Bengalistan among others.
The party members also raised voice against humiliation of Bengali language in the education sector.
