Agartala Jan 31: Dr Atul Debbarma who on earlier day broke all ties with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and filed nomination as an Independent candidate was allegedly attacked by a group of miscreants while returning home after completion of scrutiny process on Tuesday.
According to details as explained by Dr Atul Debbarma, he narrowly escaped a deadly attack while returning from the office of Returning Officer, SDM Teliamura in Khowai district.
Later, in a letter addressed to the Chief Electoral Officer, Tripura Dr Debbarma requested for security escort and house guard while raising serious security threat to his life.
He wrote, “Today while returning home after completion of scrutiny process of my nomination from 29-Krishnapur assembly constituency at Teliamura SDM Office, I was severely attacked by a group of goons in front of the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar present inside the premises of Teliamura SDM Office”.
“My car was forcefully obstructed and afterwards they started pelting stones and continued beating my car with hands and sticks, they also obstructed a bolero pick up truck comprising women and started beating the car with hands and sticks”, he added.
Dr Debbarma however expressed concerns over the claims of Election Commission’s “Zero Violence” adding that the attack took place in presence of security and police personnel on the spot in this crucial time of assembly elections.
He further said that despite written complaints filed with Teliamura SDPO, Khowai SP, Returning Officer and Observer no step has been taken so far against the criminals.
Dr Atul Debbarma further asserted that, “By doing such violence they cannot stop me from contesting elections”.
He urged the CEO to provide security escort coverage and house guard for protection at the earliest.
