Autorickshaw stolen near Battala Crematorium; Owner left distress after 24 hours without clue

autorickshaw stolen near battala crematorium owner left distress after 24 hours without clue

A shocking case of vehicle theft has surfaced right under the nose of the West Agartala Police Station, where an autorickshaw was stolen from the Battala crematorium area during a funeral. Despite 24 hours passing since the incident, the vehicle remains untraced, leaving its owner in deep distress.

According to reports, the autorickshaw owner, a resident of Battala, had parked his vehicle outside the crematorium while attending the last rites of a relative. Heavy rain forced him to remain inside during the rituals. When he returned after the ceremony, he found his autorickshaw missing. Despite searching the surrounding area, no trace of the vehicle was found.

The owner immediately lodged a complaint at the Battala outpost and later filed a written report at the West Police Station. However, he alleges that no effective progress has been made in recovering the vehicle. The stolen autorickshaw, bearing registration number TR01N2515, was his family’s primary source of income.

The victim explained that he had purchased the autorickshaw on loan, paying monthly instalments of around Rs 7,000. With his wife suffering from diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease, the vehicle was crucial for meeting household expenses and medical costs. Its theft has left the family struggling to manage daily needs.

He further accused the police of failing to provide adequate support, questioning how such a theft could occur in a busy area so close to a major police station. The incident has raised concerns about security in the locality and the effectiveness of policing in preventing such crimes.

The owner has appealed for the autorickshaw to be recovered swiftly and for the culprits to be identified and brought to justice. Meanwhile, he continues to visit the police station in hopes of updates, but frustration is mounting as the wait drags on.
