Bangladeshi national with female Indian tout held

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Government Railway Police (GRP) on Thursday arrested a Bangladeshi national along with an Indian tout from the Agartala Railway Station for illegal infiltration into India, police said.

The arrests were made at around 3 pm from in front of the main gate of the Agartala Railway Station. The Bangladeshi national has been identified as Amir Hossain (25), son of Md Jalal Sardar, a resident of Ramnagar under Kalikapur post office in Kaliganj subdivision of Sathkhira district, Bangladesh.

The Indian national arrested in connection with the case is Sultana Bibi (24), daughter of Mustofa Saha, a resident of Erendabar under Egra police station in Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed that the Bangladeshi national had illegally entered Indian territory through the international border in Sepahijala district with the assistance of the Indian tout. Police said the duo was attempting to move further into the country when they were intercepted by GRP personnel.

Following the arrests, a specific case was registered at Agartala GRP police station vide case number 2026GRP004. The accused have been booked under Section 61(2) and Section 249(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with Sections 14(A)(b) and 14(C) of the Foreigners Act, 1946, and Section 3 of the Illegal Entry into India (Amendment) Act, 2000.

Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the accused are part of a larger infiltration or human trafficking network operating along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
