The Bengali Chhatra Juba Samaj on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the state government, accusing it of failing to deliver on its pre-election promises of job creation, economic reform, and youth empowerment.
Secretary of the organisation—the youth wing of Amra Bangali political party— Biplab Das addressed the media during a press conference held at their state headquarters.
Das alleged that before coming to power, the ruling party had promised to generate 50,000 jobs annually, reinstate the terminated 10,323 teachers, double MGNREGA wages, bring reforms in the education sector, and reduce the prices of essential commodities. “However, most of these promises have remained unfulfilled,” they said.
According to the organisation, government data indicates that around 20,000 jobs have been created across various departments, but thousands of posts continue to lie vacant. “Due to administrative apathy, around 2,000 educational institutions have been closed across Tripura. Even in the remaining schools and colleges, classes are irregular because of acute teacher shortages,” he said.
The organisation also slammed the government over unabated rise in substance abuse and alleged deterioration in the health infrastructure. It also put forth a seven-point charter of demands which include: Immediate recruitment to all vacant posts across state departments to address unemployment. Establishment of small and medium-scale industries using Tripura’s local raw materials. Upgradation of the alternative National Highway, considered Tripura’s lifeline. Preference for local traders and suppliers in all government procurement. Implementation of structured training and financial aid schemes to promote youth self-reliance. Immediate recruitment of teachers from the primary to university level to fill the existing shortfall. Mandatory use of Bengali as a classical and administrative language in both government and private sectors.
