Sabroom, Aug 11: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday said the Maitri Setu would be opened in December this year connecting Tripura with the neighbouring country Bangladesh.
He was speaking with the reporters during his visit to Sabroom in South Tripura district.
Dr. Saha inaugurated multiple development projects— Tertiary Waste Treatment Centre constructed at cost of Rs. 1.50 crore, a passenger shed nearby Sabroom College, Tribal rest house at Kalacherra, Sabroom SDMO’s office and an intensive Covid treatment centre for children at Sabroom sub-division hospital.
During his visit to Maitri Setu and ICP at Sabroom, the Chief Minister said, he would soon go to Delhi and talk to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for opening of the Maitri Setu and Land Customs Station. The Chief Minister, he said, would also talk to the Union Minister of Railways for introducing express train service from Sabroom.
According to a government press release, the waste treatment centre has been built under Swachha Bharat Mission at the cost of Rs. 1.49 crore. Both biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes can be separated in the waste treatment centre. It also has the facility to turn these wastes into organic fertilizers.
The Chief Minister said, this waste treatment centre is the largest Tertiary Waste Treatment Centre in the Northeast. There should be arrangements of regular health check up for the workers associated with the maintenance of this waste treatment centre.
The Chief Minister then inaugurated a passenger shed nearby Sabroom College, built at the cost of 4 lakh 30 thousand rupees. He then interacted with the students of Michael Madhusudhan Dutta College, Sabroom.
The college students tied rakhi to the Chief Minister on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. The Chief Minister then visited the cricket ground of the college.
He also unveiled the statue of Rishi Aravinda in front of the New Town Hall in Sabroom and paid floral tribute to his statue. Then the Chief Minister visited and enquired about the progress of the construction work from the officials of Integrated Check Post at the banks of River Feni.
He then handed over land pattas to 20 persons under Mukhyamantri Cha Shramik Prakalp through a programme. Apart from that, he also handed over a wheelchair to specially abled college student Reena Das.
Other dignitaries present in all these programmes were Sabhadhipati of South Tripura Zilla Parishad Kakali Das Dutta, MLA Sankar Roy, chairperson of Sabroom Nagar Panchayat Rama Poddar Dey, South Tripura District Magistrate Saju Wahid A, and SP South Tripura Dr. Kulwant Singh.
