Kalyanpur Nov 10: Congress is a secular party and that is why India is intact today. The party played a crucial role in the country’s freedom struggle – if Congress was wiped out, India would be divided into hundred pieces, commented PCC chief Birjit Sinha at Kalyanpur on Thursday.
Sinha along with ex-MLA Ashish Saha and other Congress leaders attended a public rally programme in front of Kalyanpur Congress Office today.
Taking a swipe at BJP, the PCC chief said, Congress pays respect to all religions but not the religious fanatics. Referring to Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo’ programme, Sinha said the yatra aims at highlighting the traditional secularism of the country and the battle against discrimination and communalism. “Congress believes in moving ahead taking people of all regions together”, Sinha said.
In his speech, Ashish Saha said, people formed the BJP government with high hopes and expectations. People expected that the new government would work for the people and the state will excel. But in reality, it is the opposite.
He alleged, the ruling BJP in Tripura failed to deliver and give any good governance. Currently, BJP is divided into various sub-groups. There is no democracy and no one has the courage to speak out.
Claiming that BJP leaders are smiling in big flexes, while the people of the state are crying, Ashish Saha said, “There is no sector or profession which registered development. Mothers (women) are falling victim to different crimes. In this connection, Saha referred to the Khas Kalyanpur gang rape case and said that now everyone knows who the rapists were.
Both Sinha and Saha urged people to be united against the BJP in the upcoming Assembly polls. Congress leaders also blamed BJP for its failure in fulfilling the pre-poll promises mentioned in the Vision Document.
