The Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT), an ally of the ruling BJP in the Tripura govt, on Tuesday announced its plans to participate in a protest organised by the National Federation of New States (NFNS) at Jantar Mantar on Dec 15 to press for the demand of Tipraland (Separate state) and the passage of the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill, 2019, in the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament.
The decision was taken at a recent meeting of the party’s Central Executive Committee. Addressing a press conference here at Agartala on Tuesday, IPFT Vice President Pradip Debbarma informed that around 100 representatives from the party will take part in the protest. Delegates from the NFNS units across the Northeast are also expected to join the demonstration.
Debbarma further stated that the party will reiterate its long-standing demand for the elevation of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) to the Tipra Territorial Council (TTC), in line with the recommendation of the Tripura Legislative Assembly’s Council of Ministers, through the passage of the 125th Constitutional Amendment.
Speaking at the press meet, IPFT general secretary Swapan Debbarma said that each divisional committee has been instructed to send three representatives to participate in the Delhi programme. For railway ticket bookings, selected delegates have been asked to contact the IPFT treasurer and the treasurer of Youth IPFT.
