The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has appointed observers for all the 28 constituencies of the TTAADC to conduct small scale review meetings with the party workers, functionaries and grassroots workers right from the booth to Mandal level.
The BJP’s organisational hierarchy in an assembly constituency is divided into three major layers which includes a Mandal, the top decision making body for the constituency. It governs multiple Shakti Kendras underneath it and the Shakti Kendras are constituted by a number of booths—the smallest organisational units of the party.
“The observers had been tasked with the responsibility of reaching out to leaders of every layer of the organisation and interacting with them. Based on their inputs, each of the observers will prepare a report which will document the party’s strength and weaknesses in every constituency. Based on the findings of those reports, the next course of action will be chartered out,” a party insider told Tripura Times.
It should be mentioned here that since 2018 Bharatiya Janata Party has lost only one election which was 2021 TTAADC elections. BJP contested the elections in alliance with IPFT and ended up winning only 9 seats while Tipra Motha led alliance won 18 seats. The IPFT and CPIM drew blanks.
Technically, it was the defeat of the CPIM which ruled the TTAADC for 15 years in a trot. Later, Tipra Motha joined the BJP-led alliance in the state but BJP’s elected members in the Tribal District Council are still occupying the opposition bench of the 28-member council.
With the elections scheduled to be held in summer 2026, it is still unclear whether the BJP and Tipra Motha will fight the elections together or the electors of the politically crucial ADC are once again going to witness a friendly contest between the allies.
The CPIM which has been routed out from power is also making every possible attempt to revive its lost ground. Tripura Upajati Gana Mukti Parishad, the tribal wing of the principal opposition CPIM had been conducting regular meetings in the hilly areas in its pursuit to regain its relevance in the tribal belt, once considered to be their stronghold.
