Agartala, July 27: Amid a situation when the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party's national general secretary B L Santosh on his arrival to the state of Tripura is tuning to ensure victory and attain more seats in the forthcoming 2023 general assembly elections in Tripura, the opposition Congress party turned over the equation and claimed, “BJP is on its way back to its original position of 1.57%.”
Addressing a press conference here at Agartala Congress Bhawan present lone congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Wednesday welcomed at least 28 BJP leaders from four assembly constituencies in the congress party. Handing over the party flag to the new joinees, Barman said, “Common people and even the BJP karyakartas are frustrated with the dirty politics of the BJP party, which is the reason why BJP is moving back to its original position of 1.57% votes.”
“Gradually getting detached from the people of this state, the BJP had looted votes during the last election here to keep maintain its existence of mis-rule, but in the coming days they will not get such opportunity where they can loot votes,” Barman said, adding that the congress took up series of movement programmes against the BJP across the state of Tripura.
Barman however called the like minded parties to come forward for the sake of rescuing democracy in Tripura. He said, “The Congress party is committed to oust this fascist BJP from power.”
As many as 28 grassroot leaders of the ruling BKP party from four assembly constituencies of Khayerpur, Majlishpur, Mandai and Pratapgarh joined the congress party on Wednesday.
On the other hand, the congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman while joining the ‘Satyagraha’ programme of the Sadar district congress here at Agartala circuit house termed the ED’s questioning of Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi as ‘vendetta politics’ of the Modi government.
“To switch over the people’s mind from the complete failure of the BJP, the Modi-led government at the centre had pushed the ED towards the congress leaders, so that people can only access the headlines of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi getting questioned by the ED,” Barman told reporters on Wednesday.
A large number of congress leaders and workers on Wednesday joined ‘Satyagraha’ programme of the Congress party organised across the country marking a vehement protest against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government’s role on Enforcement Directorate (ED) interrogation of Congress president Sonia Gandhi in the National Herald case.
