Agartala June 02: To meet with the demand of 42,000 units of blood every year, blood donation is the only possible way, said state minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Ratan Lal Nath as he addressed a blood donation camp organized under the initiative of Dipanjali Social Organization at the Red Cross Society Bhavan here on Thursday.
The minister said, “The previous government failed to meet up with the demand of blood necessary per year but with the onset of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led government in the first year itself it was possible to achieve 32,105 units of blood which is a remarkable success”.
He added, “In the year 2019-20 it was further increased to 33, 227 units but the rate later slowed down because of the Covid-led pandemic in the year 2020-21, 2021-22. Later, in the year 2022-23 it was a record when a total of 42,481 units of blood could be made available for the people across the state according to their needs”.
Nath further said that it is the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led government that has marked blood donation a festival and now be it a social, cultural or political event, blood donation camps are organized across the state with zeal and fervor.
“It is the BJP-led state government that firmly believes in the ideologies of Swami Vivekananda and has made voluntary blood donation a festival across the state”, he said.
AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder while speaking on the occasion said, “It is a matter of extreme happiness that various organizations are coming forward in response to the appeal of chief minister Dr Manik Saha to alleviate the shortage of blood through voluntary blood donation”.
“It is only because of the joint efforts of all that the supply of blood in the blood banks has reached a normal state”, he said.
The dignitaries also expressed their gratitude towards the people who voluntarily donated blood at the day’s camp.
