A massive protest rally led by Tripura Minister Tinku Roy marched through the streets of Kailashahar on Sunday as BJP and its youth arm Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) workers joined in to protest against Congress MLA Birajit Sinha. The protestors accused him of instigating violence and disturbing peace in the town.
Thousands of party workers and supporters joined the protest rally that started from the BJP office at Paiturbazar and traversed through various streets of Kailashahar before culminating in a public meeting at the Municipal Council premises. The rally was led by Minister Tinku Roy, along with BJYM Unakoti District President Arup Dhar, State Secretary Shubhankar Majumder, BJP Unakoti District President Bimal Kar, General Secretary Arun Saha, and several other party leaders.
Addressing the gathering, BJYM district president Arup Dhar launched a scathing attack on Congress MLA Birajit Sinha, alleging that he was attempting to create an atmosphere of terror in Kailashahar and destroy the existing peace and harmony. Dhar claimed that Sinha had led a rally in the town with his followers carrying sharp weapons without administrative permission. He further accused the Congress leader of bringing in miscreants and Rohingyas from Bangladesh to participate in the rally.
BJYM state secretary Shubhankar Majumder condemned Sinha’s alleged role in “provoking unrest” and asserted that the BJP would not tolerate any attempt to revive the violence that marked the Congress-led regime in the past. “Birajit Sinha wants to bring back the days of Congress-era terror in Kailashahar, but BJP workers will not allow that. We, too, know how to respond, but we believe in peace and discipline, following the ideals of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee,” Majumder said.
Later, addressing a press conference at the BJP’s Kailashahar office, party spokespersons reiterated their allegations against the Congress MLA. BJYM district president Arup Dhar, state secretary Shubhankar Majumder, district president Bimal Kar, general secretary Arun Saha, spokesperson Debasish Sen, and BJP women’s leader Chapla Rani Debroy were present.
Speaking to reporters, Debasish Sen alleged that during a recent clash over a contract-related dispute at Paiturbazar, arms and sticks were openly brandished by Congress workers led by MLA Birajit Sinha. “Sinha and his followers later held an unauthorized rally with weapons, spreading fear across the town,” Sen said.
He further claimed that such incidents were not new and that Sinha had a long history of “instigating violence” in Kailashahar, even during his tenure as a minister between 1988 and 1993 in the Congress-led coalition government. “I was once part of the Congress myself and witnessed how Birajit Sinha attacked both opposition workers and his own party members,” Sen alleged.
