BJP, Tipra Motha set for crucial meeting in New Delhi

Senior leaders of the BJP and Tipra Motha have reached the national capital for a crucial meeting to address the differences that have emerged within the ruling coalition. With the Village Committee (VC) elections drawing near, both parties are reportedly looking to set aside their differences and focus on the bigger electoral battles ahead, particularly the 2028 Assembly elections.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has already left for New Delhi. BJP state president Abhishek Debroy will also attend the meeting. A group of senior Tipra Motha leaders, led by party founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, is also expected to participate.

The relationship between the BJP and Tipra Motha deteriorated in the run-up to the TTAADC elections, which both parties decided to contest independently. The high-voltage political campaign pitted the allies against each other in the highly polarised election. The no-holds-barred campaign strained relations between the two parties, and the differences have remained unresolved since then.

However, with the VC elections approaching and the Assembly polls less than two years away, both parties are keen to resolve their differences.

Sources in the BJP said indications suggest that the party's central leadership is also in favour of resolving the differences between the coalition partners. A majority of leaders in both the BJP and Tipra Motha are also keen to settle the issues in the larger interest of the ruling alliance.
