Agartala, Jan 08: The leader of opposition and the CPI(M) Politburo member Manik Sarkar on Sunday claimed that the ruling BJP party which brought destruction to the state during the last 58 months have ‘no chance’ to retain power in the ensuing assembly elections.
“If the BJP returns to power, it will bring Sarvanash to the state again,” he said.
Sarkar was addressing a gathering at a rally of CPI(M)’s trade union Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) at Swami Vivekananda ground in Agartala.
“The votes which pushed the BJP’s less than 5 percent vote share to to a winning margin in 2018, had come from other parties,” Sarkar said, adding that the leaders of opposition Congress and TMC party, who joined the BJP in 2018 went back to their respective parties now, while a large number of leaders of BJP’s ally IPFT have gone to other party.
Sarkar said, “All section of people including the working class people of the state were deprived at large during the last 58 months of the BJP-IPFT government and the youths especially are the worst sufferers. The BJP’s vision document has been turned to jumla and the entire state of Tripura is reeling under crisis now.”
Sarkar said the BJP has been depriving Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, which is ruled by TIPRA Motha party now. “The people belonging to the indigenous community in Tripura are also deprived at large,” he alleged.
He said, “At present what is most important is putting an effort in restoring democracy and secularism. We have to be organised and we have to go to people.”
“If anybody thinks that this fascistic government will be in power and public rights, commitment, justice and accountability would be ensured, it would be wrong and just good for nothing,” he said and appealed to the working class to play a crucial role in uniting people against the BJP’s “misrule”, and build peoples’ resistance against ‘anti-people government.
Sarkar said, “If this BJP government returns to power, it would bring Sarvanash (destruction) to the state yet again.”
CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury, former MP and CITU leader Shankar Prasad Dutta, former minister Manik Dey and others were present in the rally.
