Blood donation, health camp held as Royal Club unveils Durga Puja theme

A blood donation camp, a free health camp and the unveiling of the theme for this year's Durga Puja were organised by Royal Club and Royal Welfare Society at Ranirbazar on Saturday. Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and Ramakrishna Mission, Tripura secretary Swami Subhakarananda attended the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Chowdhury said the Ranirbazar-based organisation had established itself through its year-round social activities in the Jirania subdivision.

"Throughout the year, this organisation remains involved in different kinds of social activities. Today, they have organised a blood donation camp and a free health camp and also unveiled the theme of this year's Durga Puja," the minister said.

Referring to the club's previous Durga Puja celebrations, he said last year's theme had drawn the attention of devotees and expressed hope that this year's efforts would also be appreciated by the public.

Swami Subhakarananda said he attended the programme at the invitation of Royal Club and Royal Welfare Society president Ratan Debnath and added that service to people was in keeping with the ideals associated with the worship of Goddess Durga.

"During Durga Puja we remain busy worshipping Maa Durga. The Divine Mother is pleased when someone makes efforts for the welfare of her children. I am sure she will bless all the members of this organisation for their efforts," he said.

Highlighting the welfare initiatives of the Ramakrishna Mission, the monk said the organisation continued to work for people throughout the year through various programmes.

He said the Mission was implementing a scheme called "Sraddha" under which ration support was being provided to widowed women in the Amtali and Dukli areas.

"For the last five to six months, the spices portion of the ration has been sponsored by Ratan Debnath, who is also the founder of Longthorai Spices," he said.

The Ramakrishna Mission secretary also said the Rotary Club of Agartala City had donated a mobile dental unit vehicle to Ramakrishna Mission, Viveknagar.

"The vehicle is moving across the state to create awareness about oral health among people. Today, the vehicle is rendering its services here in Ranirbazar," he said.

Apart from organising the blood donation and free health camps, the organisers distributed study materials among students during the programme.
