Dharmanagar, July 31: The Tripura Pradesh Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) on Sunday decided to withdraw Assam-Agartala National Highway-08 blockade, which was supposed to begin from August 1 as per the call of the Sangh.
The BMS called for the NH blockade on Friday last to press for their demand of clearing of outstanding dues by the Assam civil and police administration over hiring of vehicles from Tripura during the assembly election that took place in 2021.
The decision of withdrawing the road blockade came up on the intervention of the Deputy Speaker of the state legislative assembly Bishwabandu Sen.
Concerned of the call for the NH blockade in wake of the celebration of 75 years of India’s independence, the deputy speaker on Sunday talked with the District Commissioner of the Karimganj district of the neighbouring Assam over the issue of the payment of the dues and apprised him of the call for NH blockade.
The DC of the Karimganj district in response to the issue reportedly sought time till August 31 over the payment of the dues and made a request to hold the blockade. Following this, the deputy speaker Sen chaired a meeting with the District Magistrate of the North Tripura district – Dr. Nagesh Kumar B, BMS general secretary Biplab Das and other BMS members.
The BMS, during the meeting agreed to withdraw their NH blockade and decided to hold the blockade till August 31 next.
