Agartala, Nov 25: In a major step towards strengthening the technical education of Tripura, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday inaugurated a Drone Technology Centre at Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT), Narsingarh.
The centre has been developed by the Higher Education department for encouraging innovative ideas among the students.
In his address, the Chief Minister said, the first technical institute of the state, formerly known as Polytechnic Institute, had lost its glory due to some unruly activities by a section. After it started journey as TIT, it has been making achievements in various disciplines.
The Chief Minister appreciated the efforts of Education Minister Ratanlal Nath and TIT in developing this Drone Technology Centre.
Meanwhile, the students of TIT already prepared two drones. The Chief Minister lauded the spirit of the students. He also encouraged the students to work on innovative ideas.
“Inspected the new centre and the drones prepared by the students. I appreciate the efforts of the students & their guides. I believe, this institute will definitely play an important role in taking technical education in the state to new heights,” the Chief Minister tweeted.
The Minister for Education said, the objective of the Centre is to impart skills to the youths related to the operation, maintenance and design of the Drone being/to be used in various applications. In the long run, he said, the Centre is expected to provide trained manpower in Drone Technology to serve in various positions in Drone related industries.
According to Nath, drones are now being used in Agriculture for spreading seeds, fertilizers and pesticides in large areas and also in remote areas within short period of time.
Besides, drones are also being used in the field of disaster management for instant rescue and to reach and deliver relief in affected areas where surface connectivity becomes temporarily blocked.
Drones also play an important role for surveillance in every corner and also to maintain law and order effectively by the administration. Different types of drones are required for different services and it is increasing day by day, Nath said.
MLA Krishnadhan Das, Secretary of Higher Education department Saradindu Chowdhury, director N.C. Sarma and Principal in-charge of TIT Prof. (Dr.) Shekar Dutta among other dignitaries were present.
According to official sources, the focus areas of the new centre are- to develop a State of Art Centre for skill development of engineering youths of the Institute and beyond, to organize various awareness programs about Drone Technology for students, teachers and other stakeholders of society, to impart the skill development courses for assembling, disassembling, and maintenance of Drone as per the mandate of NEP-2020, to run courses on Drone designing for various application areas and to provide Drone Technology support to other Govt./Non- Govt Agencies to enhance their efficiency and effectiveness.
