Agartala, Nov 04: In a boost to sports infrastructures, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the state’s second modern synthetic football turf at Umakanta Mini Stadium on Friday.
Sports activities are difficult without proper infrastructure, the Chief Minister said in his short speech, adding that the present state government has been working to develop sports infrastructure at every level.
“Infrastructure is very important for the development of sports sector as well as sportspersons. We are also giving priority to the Sports sector. Complete physical and mental growth of a person is not possible without sports,” Dr. Saha said.
While encouraging the youths to increase their participation in the sports activities, Dr. Saha such modern sports facilities are being developed in several other locations across the state.
Minister for Sports Sushanta Chowdhury said the new synthetic football turf built at an expenditure of Rs. 5 crore fulfilled the aspirations of many football lovers in the city.
Meanwhile, the first Synthetic Football Turf of Tripura has been constructed at Chandrapur in Udaipur.
Accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Dipak Majumder, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone of flood light.
Olympian gymnast Padmashri awardee- Dipa Karmakar, secretary P.K. Chakravarty, secretary of Tripura Sports Council- Amit Rakshit and secretary of Agartala Press Club- Pranab Sarkar were present in the inaugural ceremony.
After the inaugural ceremony, a match of second division football league was played between Nine Bullets Club and Tripura Sports School.
