Border Fencing: Tripura MP Writes to Home Minister
Agartala, Oct 30, 2024, TRIPURATIMES Desk
Agartala: Oct 30: MP Biplab Kumar Deb has reached out to Home Minister Amit Shah regarding pressing concerns about the Indo-Bangla border fencing in Tripura. The total length of the international border is 856 km, yet approximately 26.64 km remains unfenced. While it has been confirmed that there are no land acquisition issues hindering the fencing process, the pace of work by construction agencies has been alarmingly Issue.
Furthermore, the existing border fencing, constructed years ago, is in a dilapidated and rusting condition due to inadequate maintenance. Given the current unstable law and order situation in Bangladesh, there is an increased risk of exploitation of the porous border by vested interests.
In his communication, Deb has urged for immediate action from the concerned agencies to expedite the completion of the remaining fencing and to renovate the older sections where needed. Although proactive measures by the Central Government have helped prevent infiltration, he emphasizes that the strength of the Border Security Force (BSF) must be augmented to ensure effective monitoring and protection.
These steps are essential not only for safeguarding national security but also for maintaining peace and stability in Tripura amidst potential challenges arising from the situation in Bangladesh.
