Bypass to be constructed along NH08 to ease traffic congestion in Udaipur, Pranajit inspects site

In a significant step towards addressing the growing traffic congestion in Udaipur and ensuring smoother access for pilgrims visiting the revered Tripurasundari Temple, the Tripura Government has initiated the process for the construction of a proposed bypass along National Highway-08.

As part of the preliminary exercise, Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Saturday conducted an extensive field inspection of the proposed bypass alignment.

The visit was aimed at assessing the feasibility of the project before the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR), including route identification, land assessment, and evaluation of various technical aspects.

During the inspection, the Finance Minister, accompanied by senior officials from multiple departments, visited key locations along the proposed corridor and issued necessary directions based on the ground realities.

The inspection was attended by Public Works Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, Chief Engineer (National Highways) Subrata Banik, PWD Chief Engineer Anup Das, Urban Development Director Dr. Tamal Majumdar, Chief Engineer of the Tripura Urban Development Authority Nitya Kumar Jamatia, officials of NHIDCL, Additional District Magistrate Subhash Acharjee, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Tridip Sarkar, and other senior government officials.

Speaking to reporters after the visit, the Finance Minister said that the number of pilgrims and tourists visiting the Tripurasundari Temple has been increasing steadily, leading to a significant rise in vehicular movement through Udaipur town.

Keeping future traffic demands in mind, the government is planning to construct a five-kilometre bypass road from Bagma to Matabari.

He said the proposed bypass is expected to pass through Bagma, Tepania, Jamjuri, and the area near Udaipur Railway Station before reconnecting with National Highway-08 near the Matabari Temple.

He said, the project is expected to substantially reduce congestion within Udaipur town while providing a faster and more convenient route for pilgrims and visitors.

The Finance Minister further informed the media that all technical, administrative, and land-related aspects of the project will be examined in detail before the preparation of the DPR begins shortly.

He expressed confidence that once implemented, the bypass project would significantly improve traffic management in Udaipur, enhance connectivity to the Tripura Sundari Temple, and provide a major boost to tourism in the region.
