Cameroon national arrested in Tripura for Illegal border crossing sent to 3-day police custody

A 41-year-old Cameroon national was arrested by the Border Security Force (BSF) for allegedly entering India illegally through the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura's Belonia sub-division.

The accused, identified as Peters Molla (41), was apprehended by BSF personnel of the 43 Battalion near the Ballamukha border under the Ishan Chandranagar Gram Panchayat area after he allegedly crossed the barbed-wire fence from Bangladesh into Indian territory.

According to officials, BSF troops intercepted the foreign national during routine border surveillance and took him to the 43 Battalion Border Outpost (BOP) for preliminary questioning.

After completing the necessary legal formalities, he was handed over to Belonia Police Station.

The accused was produced before a court in Belonia, where police sought custody to investigate the circumstances surrounding his alleged illegal entry into India. The court granted three days of police remand, police said.

Police are now trying to determine the purpose of his visit, the route he used to enter the country, and whether he was assisted by any individuals or networks operating across the border.

Police are also probing whether the incident is linked to human trafficking, illegal migration, or any other organised cross-border activity.
