Central elephant experts visits wild elephant-prone areas, advises fixing GPS

Teliamura July 30: The Forest Department has sought the advice of experts from outside state to cope with the problems associated wild elephants in the localities near Teliamura.
The team after visiting the elephant-affected areas had a meeting with the officials on Friday and submitted their advice which includes fixing GPS in the body of the wild elephants to keep watch on their movement.
Padmasree awardee Dr K K Sharma, a renowned elephant expert is leading the five-member team. Chief Wild Life Warden and other state officials also accompanied them.
At Friday's meeting, the experts said the GPS system can be fixed in the body of the elephants after making them senseless. Once it is fixed the authority will be able to keep watch on their movement and take preventive steps in advance.
MLA Kalyani Roy, Khowai District Forest Officer Jaya Ragul Gassen, and other officials also attended the meeting.
