Agartala, May 18: A delegation from the Indian Government's ‘Security Audit Team’ visited Sabroom and Belonia Muhurighat Integrated Check Posts in Tripura on Wednesday to assess operational efficiency and security measures.
Led by Additional Secretary (IRS) Vinayak Azad, the delegation included Sami Ahmed Khan, Deputy Secretary (NH IDCL), Sanjib Sharma, Regional Officer (NH IDCL), Harpit Singh, Joint Director (Ministry of Development North East), and other representatives including Manager Tripura division of Land Port Authority of India Debashish Nandi and ex-MLA Sankar Roy.
During their visit to Sabroom, the delegation focused on inspecting the security issues at the Integrated Check Post (ICP). Their primary objective was to evaluate the security systems and services implemented at the land port. Vinayak Azad addressed the queries raised by journalists and emphasized that their assessment included the security infrastructure at various points along the India-Bangladesh border.
Debashish Nandi mentioned that the Land Port of India had acquired 54 acres of land in Sabroom in 2018 and that approximately 60% of the ICP construction work had been completed. It is expected that the construction of the Integrated Check Post will be finalized by the end of this year. The delegation held a joint meeting to address the final aspects of ICP construction.
In a separate visit, the delegation assessed the overall situation at the Belonia Muhurighat border land port. They focused on reviewing the port's infrastructure, passenger movements, passport-related procedures, and border security. Previously, work at the land port had encountered obstacles due to objections from the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB). However, it has been confirmed through sources that this issue has been resolved during bilateral discussions between India and Bangladesh.
