Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha attended a blood donation camp at Agartala Government Nursing College, IGM Hospital, where he underscored the robust development of Tripura’s healthcare sector under the BJP-led government.Â
Â
Addressing the gathering at the Florence Nightingale Auditorium, the chief minister said that people of the state no longer need to travel outside for treatment, citing the upcoming Rs 250 crore super-speciality block at GB Hospital designed in full corporate style.
Â
Dr. Saha pointed out that inspectors visiting Tripura’s Dental College often remark that such facilities are not available even in their own institutions elsewhere. He also announced that the DONER Ministry has approved a dedicated Mother and Child unit at IGM Hospital, with work already underway, and that a 100-bed tertiary eye hospital will soon be established near ILS Hospital, attached to Agartala Government Medical College to ensure patients need not leave the state for advanced care.
Â
The chief minister further revealed that Rs 75 crore has been sanctioned for each of the proposed Homeopathic and Ayurvedic colleges, with land already demarcated. He emphasized that these initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to strengthening medical infrastructure across Tripura.
Â
Beyond healthcare, Dr. Saha announced a heritage five-star hotel project in collaboration with the TATA group, to be built on the grounds of the erstwhile Pushpavanta Palace. The hotel is expected to attract foreign tourists, create 200 direct jobs, and be accompanied by four new flyovers to ease traffic congestion in the capital.
Â
On employment, the chief minister highlighted the introduction of the PRTC system, ensuring that local candidates are given priority in government jobs, while castigating the opposition for spreading “false rumours” about outsiders filling posts. He reminded them of the plight of the 10,323 terminated teachers, blaming the previous government for their fate.
Â
Dr. Saha also spoke about tribal development, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for initiatives that have elevated tribal communities nationwide, citing President Droupadi Murmu and former Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma’s appointment as Governor of Telangana as examples of empowerment. He noted that many tribal individuals from Tripura have recently received Padma Shri awards, something unprecedented in the state’s history.
Â
Taking a swipe at the opposition, he said people are no longer swayed by “rotten words” and can see for themselves how the state is progressing. He reiterated that the government is working for the development of all sections of society and pledged to build a “new Tripura” with collective effort.
Â
Concluding his address, Dr. Saha thanked the blood donors, stressing that blood has no caste or religion and that donating blood is the noblest gift. He urged citizens to come forward to ensure that state blood banks remain adequately stocked so that no patient suffers due to shortage.
