Classroom calling: Former Tripura MP resumes teaching

It is said that a true teacher often fails to avoid his attachment with chalk, duster and blackboard. The age has changed. The teaching and learning materials and methods have also evolved. But, that sense of attachment is still indispensable. 

Former MP Rebati Tripura’s return to the classroom in his previous role as a teacher proved the old adage true once again.  

While people described his move as a formal farewell to politics, Tripura BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee asserted that Tripura would be playing a role for the party and he had been assigned duties as per the party directives. 

He has rejoined Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Higher Secondary School in Agartala, where he previously served before entering public life.

Rebati Tripura has resumed his duties as a Post Graduate Teacher (Political Science) at the school.

His return has been warmly welcomed by teachers, students and well-wishers, many of whom have praised the decision as an inspiring example of choosing to contribute to society through education after a career in public service.

On being asked on the issue, BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee said, “It is a welcome step. He is a teacher by profession and since he has time, he should invest it in the professional sphere so that students are not deprived of a good teacher.” 

Rejecting the speculations that Tripura might have opted for teaching after being felt snubbed, especially, due to the poll debacle in TTAADC polls, Bhattacharjee said, “No political activist of BJP is ignored. Everyone has their specific tasks and similarly he is also handling a lot of things. He is handling some responsibilities of the Janajati Morcha. There are also some assignments very intricately related with the party’s strategy which are not disclosed in public.”
