Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha visited Ramnagar on Monday to pay his respects to the late Saptarshi Das, a 23-year-old medical intern who tragically lost his life in a road accident on the Delhi–Lucknow national highway on the night of December 3.Â
Â
The chief minister met the bereaved family, offered condolences, and stood in solidarity with relatives, friends, and neighbors as they bid their final farewell to the young doctor.
Â
Saptarshi, along with his friends Arnav Chakraborty, Ayush Sharma, and Shrestha Pancholi, died when their car overturned after colliding at high speed with a stationary truck. The accident cut short Saptarshi’s promising career, as he was nearing completion of his MBBS internship at Venkateshwar Medical University in Lucknow, with only three months left.
Â
The family’s grief was compounded by unprecedented flight disruptions across India, which delayed the transportation of Saptarshi’s mortal remains from Delhi to Agartala. Following an autopsy, the body was released to his family, but repeated cancellations of IndiGo flights forced them into a painful cycle of returning the body to the mortuary, booking hotel accommodations, and making fresh travel arrangements.
Â
His mother, Arpita Deb Sarkar, described the ordeal of being assured of flights only to face last-minute cancellations, leaving the family to shuttle between the mortuary, hotel, and airport. After three days of uncertainty, Saptarshi’s body finally arrived at Agartala MBB Airport on Monday and was taken to his residence in Ramnagar for visitation.
Â
The chief minister’s presence at the residence underscored the gravity of the tragedy and the collective mourning of the community.
Â
As neighbors, relatives, and friends gathered to pay tribute, Dr Saha’s words of condolence offered solace to a family devastated by the untimely loss of their son, whose dedication to medicine had promised a bright future.
