Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha made a visit to the fish market at Maharajganj Bazar in Agartala on Saturday, taking stock of the problems faced by traders and shoppers and reviewing issues related to traffic congestion, cleanliness and market infrastructure.
During his visit, the Chief Minister toured different sections of the busy market and interacted with traders, local residents and officials. He reviewed the existing facilities at the fish market, movement of people and vehicles, waste management and the overall condition of the marketplace.
Maharajganj Bazar is one of Agartala's busiest commercial hubs and witnesses a heavy footfall every day. The movement of goods vehicles, particularly during loading and unloading operations, often contributes to congestion in the area. Dr. Saha discussed possible measures to regulate traffic and ensure smoother movement for shoppers and pedestrians.
The Chief Minister also stressed the need to maintain cleanliness across the market. He appealed to traders and members of the public to avoid littering and dispose of waste only at designated places. He said maintaining a clean market requires the active cooperation of traders and citizens alongside administrative efforts.
Speaking to reporters after the inspection, Dr. Saha said the government was considering various measures to make Maharajganj Bazar cleaner, better organised and more modern. He said the existing problems would be identified and addressed in a phased manner, with particular emphasis on traffic management, infrastructure development and cleanliness.
The Chief Minister said market development should be planned keeping the convenience of the general public in mind while also safeguarding the interests of traders. Efforts would also be made to create a safer and more comfortable environment for shoppers, he added.
Dr. Saha further said discussions would be held with the concerned departments to identify administrative measures that could help ease congestion and improve the overall management of the market.
