Agartala Aug 02: Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday said that he would raise the issues delaying operations through Maitri Setu and slow pace progress of the ambitious Indo-Bangla railway link with the central government seeking its intervention to speed up the progress. “I am aware of all this. Maitri Setu is complete on our side but on the Bangladesh side some patches are still incomplete. During a courtesy meet with the representatives of the Bangladesh government, I have raised these issues and specifically requested for speedy completion from their end. But, these matters are beyond my prerogative and discussions should take place in appropriate forums between both the countries. I will draw the attention of the central government on these issues”, he said.
On the Indo-Bangla railway project, he said, “This project has also passed its initially set deadlines but now the date has been announced already.” Dr Saha who is leaving the state on August 05 to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apprise him on the progress of centrally sponsored schemes also said that PM Modi had given seven minutes time to the Chief Ministers to hear from them about the progress of the works and review. Meanwhile, Dr Saha also spoke about the grand celebrations of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and Har Ghar Tiranga campaign here in the state. He said, “We have targeted 60 percent of the total 8.5 lakh household amounts to 4.8 lakh. We shall carry out an extensive campaign across the state and involve all the government agencies to make this event a success”. According to Dr Saha, this programme has been undertaken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to infuse the feeling of nationalism and patriotism among the fellow countrymen. “When the country is celebrating the 75th year of its independence, I appeal to all my state people to pay rich tributes to the people who made supreme sacrifices for the freedom of the country through this campaign”, said Dr Saha.
